Social Psychology:its main focus and areas of applications


Psychology is the study of the human mind and behavior. William James defined psychology as the science of mental life, but it could equally by defined as the science of human nature. Research in psychology seeks to understand and explain thought, emotion, and behavior. Psychology is distributed on the major schools thought in psychology: historical and current schools of thought.
Social psychology looks at a wide range of social topics, including group behavior, social perception, leadership, nonverbal behavior, conformity, aggression, and prejudice.While Plato referred to the idea of the "crowd mind" and concepts such as social loafing and social facilitation were introduced in the late-1800sThe horrors of the Holocaust led researchers to study the effects of social influence, conformity and obedience.social psychology employs scientific methods and the empirical study of social phenomena.Social psychologists are interested in the impact that the social environment and group interactions have on attitudes and behaviors.One main focus of social psychology is attitude formation and change. An attitude is a set of beliefs and feelings. attribution theory is another area of study within the field of social cognition attribution theory tries to explain how people determine the cause of what they observe.other major area of study for social psychology is aggression and antisocial behaviorюSocial psychologists also study what factors increase the change that people will like one another.Psychologists have also devoted tremendous time and attention to the concept of love.Conformity has been an area of much research as well.
